Starting today and ending April 14, Colegio Shalom will be on vacation to celebrate the week before Easter, Holy Week. Holy Week is traditionally a Catholic celebration, but Catholicism has such deep roots in Guatemala that nearly everyone, even the non-Catholics, celebrate. The children will enjoy lots more free time this coming week, as well as a trip to a local pool and an ecological park!
On a bittersweet note, we were sad to say goodbye to little Evelyn, left, who this week left Casa Shalom to live with an adult cousin and his wife. While we will miss her smiling face and endless supply of questions, we are happy that she is with family who very much want to raise her and who has the means to give her a good life. Please keep Evelyn in your prayers. As Casa Shalom is the only home she's ever known, this will likely be a difficult transition for her!
